Researchers from the University of Louisville in Kentucky have discovered an unknown molecular element of cannabidiol to be having great therapeutic properties for Parkinson’s disease

Marijuana for Parkinson’s

There have been minimal studies that have specifically focused on the use of marijuana in treating PD partly because of the fact that marijuana is not allowed and can bring about clashing outcomes, in entirety, they give understanding on how marijuana can help those with Parkinson’s. Tetrahydrocannabinol, Cannabidiol, and THCV have shown enough that there is hope for PD and this could be a call for further studies on the same .Further investigation could lead to discovery on whether it’s just the cannabinoid plant or a combination is the best for the different phases of Parkinson’s.

Testimonies from those who have used marijuana show that acids in raw marijuana plants can reduce convulsions in PD patients. Acids such as THCA found in raw cannabinoid are the original neutral chemicals that when activated form cannabinoids such as THC. Decarboxylation is a process through which cannabinoid acids are formed into neutral compounds. In this process, heat or their longevity is used so that they can lose the carboxyl group. There has not been adequate research, but evidence has shown that THCA and CBDA have a connection to attributes such as of protection against nausea, inflammation, cancer, and seizures. In a survey conducted among patients in early 2000 in a center in the Czech Republic, it was reported that at least 46% had experienced improvement in PD movement systems

It has been found by clinicians that dosage regimens for patients might not cut across for all patients with PD patients. One doctor Bonni Goldstein has written a book explaining this kind of response and why it varies from one patient to another.

She noted that some of her patients had reported on benefits they experienced after using certain methods of administration and types of cannabinoid. On the other hand, others had used inhaled THC and found it most beneficial in relieving tremors while others did not enjoy this benefit. High doses of CBD-cannabis had helped other patients as well if they applied it under the tongue. She recommended that patients could use a trial and error method to get what works best for them. Starting from a low dosage working their way up to what works for them especially THC.

According to Juan Sanchez-Ramos the Director of the Parkinson Research Foundation, he mentioned that he encouraged patients that visit him to start with a ratio of 1:1 THC: CBD. He co-authored a book which helps describe a dosing measure used in PD patients that offered the best results in various studies that had been compiled.  Below are different regimens that have been proven to work
